Carve Fairy Doors with Dave
Dave is back, by popular demand!
Dave Kergan is a self-taught carver; you will find his pieces in collections across Canada and the US. Some of his creations have even made their way into Europe. Dave carves everything from Christmas ornaments to detailed diorama scenes. He has competed in the Canadian Wildfowl Championship and won many ribbons with his detailed carvings of songbirds and game fish. This will be Dave’s third season of teaching here at Chipping Away.
Learn how to carve A magical entrance to the fairy world with David Kergan when he hosts this whimsical wood carving workshop. This class will be taught here at Chipping Away in our studio classroom. This will be considered an intermediate level. If you re unsure if you are ready to are welcome to check in with us. This project although a dimensional carving, will teach techniques that will help you with future relief type projects.
Dave Kergan will guide you through a magical learning journey that will excite any one who believe in all things fantastical and enchanting. Your journey starts with a piece of router Basswood (Router removes waste) and after chipping away at it with your carving tools you will be left with your very own one-of-a-kind embellished intricate door to the fairy world! You will also be instructed on painting so bring your brushes!
Although we cannot guarantee that this door leads to a real fairy’s cottage…
…you never know what mystical beings might someday unlock YOUR fairy door!
Equipment and tools required for this project are as follows:
A quality detail carving knife and small palm set of gouges that includes a V-tool, pencil for marking, and safety glove.
This Class will be held Saturday April 5, 2025 from 11am-4pm
Registration deadline will be April 1st as material preparations are required.
Max. number of students is 10, space is limited.
