Chip Carve a Heart Motif Box ~ Beginner!

Try something new! If you have never experienced the joys of Chip Carving, Join us for this two day workshop!

Michael Dowling will be your instructor, he is a former educator with the Waterloo District Catholic School Board. He became interested in chip carving after seeing a demonstration in 1993 at the Durham Wood Show and began to take instructions from his teacher and mentor Dennis Moor. ( Dennis is the founder of Chipping Away)

Michael continued to improve his chip carving by becoming certified as an instructor with
Marty Leenhouts of My Chip Carving in 2016 and has since entered many of his carvings in woodworking shows in the province and worldwide. Michael has been an instructor at Lee Valley Tools in Waterloo since 2019.

Join Michael Dowling for his 2-day Valentines themed chip carving box workshop.

In this 2-Day beginner level workshop Michael will teach you to carve intricate patterns and designs of love into a wooden box. This 2-day workshop would be perfect for a “date night”, couples’ activity, or even a date out with your best friend!

You will need to have a quality Chip carving knife, pencil and eraser. The box and practice wood will be provided.

The finished product will be a perfect Valentines day gift for your special someone to use as a jewelry box, Storage for tea, Medicines, Stationary.. Or you could even fill it with Valentine’s day treats and gift it to your special someone that way. Better yet, you can keep the box for yourself and fill it with the special things you love.

During your first day of carving with Michael, he will teach you the beginning steps to chip carving, laying out a pattern and on the second day he will help you refine and complete the box to its final look.

This Class will be held Saturday February 1st and Saturday February 8th, 2025 from 10am-4pm each day.

Registration deadline will be January 23rd as material preparations are required.

Max. number of students is 8, space is limited.
